About Dimple Creation
The dimpled smiles of celebrities like Mario Lopez, Brad Pitt, and Jennifer Garner have always drawn in fans. Recently, they’ve inspired those fans to get dimples of their own. Dimple creation, or dimpleplasty, is one of the newest trends on the cosmetic market. At Timeless Plastic Surgery in Sugar Land, TX, we now perform four times as many dimpleplasty procedures as we did just a couple of years ago. Dimples are a unique characteristic that makes an attractive smile even more alluring. Our seasoned plastic surgeons, Drs. Peter Chang and Ankur Mehta, are excited to offer the "Timeless Dimpleplasty" to area men and women.
Dimple Creation Candidates
Dimpleplasty is a great option for both men and women who desire dimples or want to enhance their existing dimples. Our pioneered method (timeless dimpleplasty) is a modified approach to the traditional dimpleplasty that allows our patients to personalize their treatment. During your initial consultation, you will be able to determine how long, short, deep, or shallow you want your dimples. You can also choose exactly where you would like your new dimples to be on your cheeks.
Dimple Creation Technique
Dimpleplasty is performed under local anesthetic and is considered an outpatient procedure. Dimples are created by making a tiny incision inside the cheek. There are no cuts on the outside of the face. A small piece of cheek muscle is removed and the remaining muscle is attached to the underside of the skin with a dissolvable suture. The incision on the inside of the cheek leaves an indentation in the skin, creating the dimple. Typically, this process takes about 20 – 30 minutes to complete.
Dimple Creation What to Expect
You can expect minimal swelling and minor discomfort, but these symptoms are temporary and can be eased with over the-counter pain medication or a cold compress. Specific aftercare instructions will also be provided and should be followed accordingly to ensure optimal healing. Initially, the dimples will seem fairly deep but will look more natural over time. Typically, a follow-up appointment will be scheduled about two weeks after your initial procedure to monitor your progress.
Dimple Creation FAQs
How much does it cost?
The cost of your procedure will depend on whether you are getting one dimple, two, or enhancing an already existing dimple. Once your custom treatment plan is created, we can discuss your estimated costs. Our office accepts many different forms of payment and can help you find low-interest medical financing.
Does it hurt?
The procedure is performed under a local anesthetic, which means you will not be able to experience any pain during your surgery. Once the procedure is done and the anesthetic wears off, you may feel some minor discomfort. We recommend taking an over-the-counter pain medication to ease any discomfort.
When will I see results?
At first, the dimples will be visible at all times, but after about 1 – 3 months, the tissue will begin to settle and the dimples will only be seen when you smile. This process will vary from patient to patient. If you have any questions or concerns during your recovery process, we encourage you to call our office.
Does it work?
After a dimpleplasty, many patients experience optimal results at month three. In some cases, patients may heal so well that the dimples may not be as dramatic as they were hoping to achieve. Generally, most patients are very happy with their results, but it's important to have realistic expectations.
Incisions for dimpleplasty are placed inside the mouth, which means there is no visible scarring. Many patients love this benefit and are surprised at how quickly their incisions heal.
